LVRC Track Championships 2013

Report courtesy of Geoff Brandt:

“Well organised by Steve Davies at Newport Velodrome last weekend. Clive was still nursing himself back to fitness and XL was sunning himself in Majorca so I was left to fight it out on my ownsome. Saturday began with a sprint qualifier of about 13.5, bit slow but good enough to lead the pack in the 65-69’ers. Then a points race with 4 more sprints to face, I get 2nd in every one to win a silver medal behind Mike Allen. On with the sprint competition proper, I get a walk over in the 1st round then win my semi and final for the gold medal, both from the front. Sunday morning and a recovery ride from Newport to Usk via Caerleon, got to the garden centre for a bite and found I hadn’t got enough for B on T so back for a flap jack and the afternoon scratch race. Despite best efforts over 40 laps to get rid of the opposition a bunch finish ended in a 3rd place. Quickly on to the 500m time trial, a rapid change of chain ring and I drag out a sub 40s ride to get another 1st place. Sadly, Mike Allen won all 3 of his events so the overall Omnium championship will have to wait for another year.”
