Rob Rogers 2nd in the U16 s at the Great Orme Road Race

The Great Orme Road Race organised by the Rhos-on-Sea Cycling club was held on the 30th September. Three North Enders competed in the under 16s race. Rob Rogers was 2nd, Max Spedding 7th and Jack Hulme 9th. Craig Rogers also competed in the under 12s event finishing 5th.

Race report from Peter Spedding:

” 4 BNECC youth members took part in the Great Orme race in gruelling conditions yesterday, wind was gusting 35-40knots at Hilbre Island so I guess up around 50-60mph  by the Rest and Be Thankful cafe where they finished – you could barely stand up in the wind.

Craig was brought down early on in his race but dusted himself down and spent the race chasing the leaders – real good effort.

Jack, Max and Rob were in the U16’s.  Jack who was under the weather finished well (9th) having to chase for much of the race.  Max was in the leading pack until last 150 yards uphill into the wind finished about 10 secs back 7th, Rob came close to the win sprinting  head on into the wind the winner nipped past with yards to go.  I felt proud watching them. Believe it was their first taste of closed roads racing through town.

Mark Donnelly did the main race and that looked as hard as it gets with rain and wind. Plenty of hard crashes by the looks of the tattered lycra and pink bikes.”

Cycle to Lapland Charity Event

Message for Karen Jones, Northern Lights Charity:

Hi All

Many thanks for registering an interest at Eureka Café for our Cycle to Lapland fund-raising event, I have attached a couple of newsletters for your information (click links below):

Newletter two

We are at the stage of allocating time slots to anyone who would like to help us with this event, as a reminder we are trying to cycle the equivalent distance from Neston to Kittila in Lapland which is a total of 2,235 miles on turbo trainers during the following times at Cheshire Oaks:

Friday 23rd November – 10am – 7pm

Saturday 24th November – 9am – 5pm

Sunday 24th November – 10am – 5pm

We require 5 cyclists per hour and hope to average about 20 miles each making a total of about 100 miles per hour, therefore we estimate that we can complete this ride within 24 hours over the three days.

We are not asking anyone to collect sponsorship for the event, but hope to collect funds in buckets during the ride from the shoppers who will be at Cheshire Oaks at the beginning of their busy time for Christmas.  We do however have a Text Giving number and an online website collecting funds so hope you may be able to encourage friends and colleagues to either come along to the event to support you or to donate via these means as follows:

Text NLCC25 £5 to 70070, or click on the following link to donate using your credit or debit card via – https://mydonate.bt.com/events/cycletolapland/90424

On the day, if you are one of the riders who can take part on the Turbo Trainers we will require the following:

  • A road  bike!
  • A computer on the rear wheel of your bike so we can capture and collate the number of miles ridden
  • To attend at the allocated times as without a guaranteed 5 riders per hour we will struggle to make the distance

Or if you would like a slot on the exercise bike:

  • To attend at the allocated time in suitable clothing for cycling

 We will provide:

  • Water for while you are riding
  • Tea, coffee and biscuits while you are on a break
  • Goody bag to take away with you after the event

Please can you confirm the times when you would be available, we can do this as one hour on and one hour off if you want to do multiple hours or you can commit to a longer period of continued riding if you want.  Hopefully we will be able to allocate the times you would like, but if they get overbooked we will come back to you with an alternative as close to the times you have selected.
